I’m sitting on the airplane heading for Frankfurt, Germany, to start my epic adventure abroad. My backpack’s sticking out a little ways into the aisle to make room for my feet as I type this. Eleven hours on a plane is a long time, but I’m still kind of excited about it even though I’m four hours in.
I said goodbye to my family and Davis at the airport earlier this afternoon. And to be honest, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. I know it’s going to be a long time until I see anyone that I know really well, but I’m not scared. I know they’ll be there for me when I get back and all along the way, and besides, it’s going to be fun 🙂
I met two girls at the airport that are going to the same program I’m in. They both seem really nice and as excited as I am to be going. I can’t wait to get to know everyone – I can just sense that it’s going to be a great summer.
I also started decorating my new pair of TOMS. I’ve decided that this is my travelling pair, and that I’m going to document where I go in them on the shoes themselves. I wrote the airport name underneath the “TOMS” sign on the back of my right shoe. All the empty canvas makes me so excited about the places I’m going to go in the future.
I felt a bit unpatriotic as I boarded a plane heading to Germany on Independence Day, but oh well. Maybe I’ll be able to see fireworks from above as they light up the night sky.
I’m really going. I’m going to land at approximately 10:35am Frankfurt time, slightly jetlagged and in a different place altogether. And I’m so excited about it.
